How do I choose the right Social Media agency?

Once you have your social media marketing goals, it is time to find the right agency for you.

Let’s talk facts, social media marketing is a must have for any business nowadays. It can no longer be dismissed as “something nice to have.”

In 2020, according to statista.com, over 3.6 billion people were using social media worldwide, a number projected to increase to almost 4.41 billion in 2025.

Today’s market is all about brand recognition, engaging customers, and developing a competitive edge.

If you want to reach your target audience, social media is the place to do it. The Sprout Social Index reported that after following a brand on social media, consumers continue to engage in various ways. Ninety-one percent visit the brand’s website or app, 89% will buy from the brand and 85% will recommend the brand to a family or friend.

So, how do you know if you need an agency?

It can be difficult to determine when to seek help. Particularly because there are costs involved. Plus, you may understand how social media marketing works on the surface and may have carried a lot of tasks on your own.

Try to answer the following questions:

  • Are you struggling gaining followers?
  • Are you struggling to increase your engagement rate?
  • Are you unsure how to see or measure ROI for your social media campaigns?
  • Do you feel unable to achieve your social media marketing goals because of lack of time or resources?
  • Do you need an outside perspective and expertise on your social media marketing?
  • Are you unsure on how to budget for social media marketing?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then maybe contacting a social media marketing agency is a good idea.

Here is a four point checklist you can follow for finding the right social media agency.

1. Determine the right size of agency for your business.

Agencies come in all shapes and sizes. Some are boutique agencies with a small group of staff members while others may be large global agencies with hundreds of employees.

A smaller social media agency means a more personal touch and means working with the same team daily or when needed. This could mean that the team you meet at the pitch will likely be the same team throughout. This arrangement could also lead to a more close relationship with the creative director.

Large agencies have more capacity and access to resources to help grow your brand, this may also mean that several agency members will be servicing your account.

2. Look at the Case Studies

Review the social media marketing agency’s case studies. These case studies should include the strategy behind the content, creative, and how the campaign performed in the market.

The case studies will also tell you:

  • What business or marketing problem the agency needed to resolve.
  • What insights about the customer, brand or business did it uncover and leverage in the creative process?
  • How the campaign performed in the market

3. Assess the agency’s capabilities

Be clear on what capabilities you need for your brand, whether it’s just social media, web analytics, website design, SEO or others. Select an agency that can deliver.

Make sure the social media agency is well experienced in whatever capabilities you need.

4. Hire the culture.

Assess the agency’s core values to make sure they’re a good match with your brand and team. Look for agencies that will be a true extension of your business and team.
You want a social media agency that is collaborative, positive, enthusiastic, innovative, and proactive.

With these four points in mind, research and compare social media agencies before making any decision. A google search will also pull up information about agencies around the web. Linkedin can also be a great tool to vet agencies you are interested in.
